Kicking off in Pawtucket, RI, advocates from across Rhode Island will meet up with friends, family and fellow activists at the district office of Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) on Saturday, October 3rd to make it clear that they expect her to keep her commitment to not support or vote for a nominee before the elections are decided.

“We simply cannot stand by and watch this vote get pushed through when elections are already underway and ballots are being mailed. That’s why we are coming together to push back and push for justice. We demand that Susan Collins do the right thing, the democratic thing, and commit to not confirming a Supreme Court nominee before Inauguration Day. And words are not enough. We need her to take specific action to work with her Senate colleagues to prevent a rushed confirmation process that goes against the will of the people and the spirit of the Constitution.” – Tammy Brown, The Womxn Project board of directors

“We are still waiting for the Senate to take action to address the millions who have lost their jobs or are now going without health insurance due to the pandemic and instead here they are playing political games with the Supreme Court. They don’t have time to provide relief to people who are truly in peril, but days before the election they are trying to jam through a nominee who would roll back decades of progress on everything from marriage equality and LGBT equality to abortion access, the Affordable Care Act, and the Equal Rights Amendment.” – Jocelyn Foye, director of The Womxn Project

So the United States Senate doesn’t have time to provide relief to people who are truly in peril in the midst of a pandemic, but days before the election they are trying to jam through a nominee who would roll back decades of progress on everything from marriage equality and LGBT equality to abortion access, the Affordable Care Act, and the Equal Rights Amendment.

Sample message:
Dear Senator Collins,
My name is __. I am writing to urge Senator Collins to keep her promise to vote NO on a nomination to the Supreme Court before the elections. The elections are already underway. More than two million people have already voted. They should have a say in the direction of our country, including such a serious decision as the future of the Supreme Court.
I hope that Senator Collins will keep her commitment to not support and vote no on any Supreme Court nomination vote before the elections are completed and work with her Senate colleagues to prevent a rushed confirmation process that goes against the will of the people and the spirit of the Constitution.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
(your name)

The Senate should let the people decide who they want to be in power and make these kinds of huge decisions – not jam it through in some takeover by Trump and his cronies. We are speaking out today and we will continue to show up to fight for justice!

- Hey, Senate Collins. More than two million people have already voted. They should have a say in the direction of our country and a serious decision like the future of the Supreme Court! Vote NO on a nomination until after the elections! #ForJustice
- The right thing to do #ForJustice is to let the people decide. Keep your promise to vote no on a Supreme Court nomination at least until after the election – if not until after the Inauguration! The court should not be a place for political games!
