A HUGE STEP FORWARD – we did this.
Now, let’s keep it up!
Womxn Project friends, we are thrilled to share that the Senate Health and Human Services Committee voted to pass the Reproductive Privacy Act. A few changes were made, but the bill is intended to protect the right to abortion and the updated language in this statute does just that! The bill is now headed to the Senate floor.
This moment would not have happened without activists like YOU! We have built a strong movement together. We need to continue to see this through.
- Plan to be there with us on Tuesday for the Senate floor vote! It is sure to be an incredibly exciting day! You should also mark your calendars for next Thursday. If we are able to get this bill passed, it will need to go back to the House.
- Contact your senator via phone and/or email and urge them to vote “yes” on the Reproductive Privacy Act. Not sure who represents you? Click HERE to find your senator and then make a call and send an email to push support for H 5125!
- Post on social media to show your support – Sample Post: Thank you to RI Senate Health & Human Services Committee for passing the RPA. On to the floor. I’m urging my senator and all senators to protect the right to abortion by voting “yes”. No more amendments. No more delays. We need #repro4RI! Let’s see this through and #passtheRPA!
This bill is a necessary and powerful challenge to the slew of states where politicians who do not know our lives or care about our stories have pushed to take abortion care away. This bill stands as a clear rejection of anyone who thinks they should be able to control our bodies, take away our rights, or deny the ability to make our own decisions about how we build our families and our futures.
Thank you to Chair Miller, Vice Chair Goldin and Senators Sheehan, Crowley, Lawson, Nesselbush, Satchell and Valverde for voting in support of the RPA. We are truly grateful! Consider taking a moment to call or email and thank them TODAY! Click here to download photos and share them on social with a THANK YOU as well.
There is still work to be done to get this bill to the governor’s desk, but we are not going anywhere. We will keep showing up and speaking out. And after that we will harness the power of this amazing movement that we have built to take on the barriers that push the right to abortion out of reach for too many. Let’s keep it up and get this done!
