We believe survivors of assault, abuse, and harassment. We stand with Representative Kazarian and all victims of assault, abuse, and harassment. The culture of the State House must change. That starts with the immediate resignation of Speaker Mattiello and Representative Keable.
The Speaker confirmed yesterday that he lied in December 2017. Following Representative Tanzi’s sexual harassment allegations, he said there were no other allegations. However, he confirmed he has known of the sexual harassment of Representative Kazarian since 2015. It is unthinkable that he would keep Representative Keable in a leadership role and take no formal action.
Further, he kept Representative Keable as chair of the powerful Judiciary Committee. It is no wonder that under his tenure bills like the Reproductive Health Care Act and legislation to eliminate the civil statute of limitations for sexual abuse never left the Committee. This good old boys’ network, that protects and keeps harassers in power, must not be tolerated and it must end now.
