Like many of you, we spent Monday mourning the Roe “Un”niversary. But in true TWP fashion, we channel our sadness and our rage into action!
TWP has been at the front-line of ensuring abortion protections in RI. We helped pass key legislation to protect our rights and then expanded access to all in RIers. Yesterday, we celebrated the important work we have done together with a lobby day thanking the many bill sponsors of the Equality in Abortion Coverage Act (EACA) on the 51st Roe “Un”niversary with paper flowers. We are proud of all we have accomplished in Rhode Island as leaders and partners on key issues from abortion and voting rights to sex worker rights and codifying the ACA basic health patient protections into state law. But let’s be clear that there is still a lot of work to do.
We know that the same people who obstruct abortion rights seek to obstruct gender affirming care as well. This hate springs from the same oppressive impulse that generates racism and misogyny. We need to come to the aid of our trans and LGBTQIA friends, to ensure that every person in our states gets to be who they are, love who they love, control their own bodies, and build their own futures.
We announce a RI community action to defend the rights of trans and gender diverse Rhode Islanders focused on bodily autonomy. Bodily autonomy is about each of us having the right to show up as our whole, authentic selves and to strive for our dreams and our potential without judgment or harassment. We all deserve safety, dignity, and the freedom to make decisions about our own lives and families.
Attacks on gender diversity are raging across the nation – not only laws that limit access to gender-affirming health care. We are talking about transgender people wondering if they can use the bathroom, shop at a store, go to school or work without being harassed, harmed or even criminalized. This is not ok and it is not the kind of community we want to live in so we are doing something about it and hope you will be with us again!
The people who spew hate are showing up. The people who push regressive, racist, anti-trans agendas are making their voices heard. The Womxn Project and TWP Education Fund are ready to show up and speak up, too. Are you with us?
We invite you to join us as we continue defending abortion access, expanding abortion access and defend bodily autonomy. We have to make it clear that we reject any attempt to take away our right to bodily autonomy or to roll back the important gains that have been made for reproductive justice and trans liberation. We stand with those under threat by showing them they are loved and supported. Hate is not welcome and will be shown the exit door. JOIN US TODAY!
