The Womxn Project Featured on PBS Generation Rising.
Providence, RI 1.10.25: The Womxn Project is thrilled and humbled to be interviewed by Anaridis Rodriguez, host of RI PBS television series “Generation Rising”, produced by Brianna Medina. Appearing with TWP Executive Director Jocelyn Foye were BOD Chair, April Ruedaflores and artist, TWP activist and translator, Gaby Cantú.
Airing Friday, Jan 10th at 7:30 PM and then again on Jan. 17th at 7:30 PM on RIPBS, the interview covers a wide range of topics. “Those who tune in will get a broad picture of the workings of TWP,” said Jocelyn Foye. “From how TWP started in 2017, the legislative victories driven by grass-roots organizing and art, to our current work on securing bodily freedom for all Rhode Islanders.” Both Gaby Cantu, artist and activist, and April Ruedaflores, TWP board chair, join to talk about how the work drew them in to get involved and what that has led to in their careers.
“The focus of TWP is, as always, on bodily freedom,” noted April Ruedaflores. “Joining the TWP board is my way of guaranteeing RI has a group committed to working for and expanding bodily freedom in RI through accessible styles that uplifts our neighbors. I joined this group because I trust it to be active everyday, in every community, identifying threats to bodily freedom, creating policies and legislation that can improve it and inviting community members to participate. TWP has my best interests at heart.”
Gaby Cantu concluded, “I can give my time and art to TWP. Whatever you can contribute, be it talents, or your time or your monthly donations, everything together gives TWP the resources to do the work, often behind the scenes and out of the limelight, that continue to secure our rights to bodily freedom in RI.”
Generation Rising is a community-focused series that evokes conversation about various inequalities across Rhode Island, sheds light on the issues faced every day by the Black community, Indigenous communities, Asian community, Hispanic community, and LGBTQIA+ community and the ways they are pushing our society forward for change.
