Support Our Sibling Org this #401Gives: The Womxn Project Education Fund

2023 04 Header

The Womxn Project Education Fund (TWPEF) uses artivism – strategic arts-based action, education, expression, and disruption — to build a more just and equitable Rhode Island.

TWPEF was established as a 501c3 organization just over two years ago, and although we have accomplished so much in that short time, we can achieve even more with your support! There has never been a more critical time to support organizations that are doing bold social justice work.

In 2022 we raised $2,650 through 401Gives. This year, we are hoping to raise $5,000 to fund BIGGER and BOLDER art interventions, including billboards on major Rhode Island freeways! Other initiatives include:

  • Providing online resources on reproductive healthcare
  • Creating tutorials teaching Rhode Islanders how to engage in local politics
  • Sharing artivist and educational work throughout RI and beyond

A lot has happened since our last 401Gives Campaign.

  • The Supreme Court overturned Roe V Wade
  • Anti-LGBTQ legislation has spread across the country
  • Voting has become more difficult for millions of Americans
  • Libraries, schools and universities are navigating laws that criminalize communication around reproductive health
  • There are racist bans on teaching American history
  • School boards are launching open attacks on queer identities

OUR WORK HAS NEVER BEEN MORE IMPORTANT!
Volunteers work with us because they seek creative regeneration, because they are upset about current events and because they want to help make change. We run community-based, women-led, creative, engaging and inclusive events. Below are some of our notable projects:

  • TWPEF partnered with The Womxn Project to float a hot air balloon during a huge rally at the Rhode Island State House
  • We created larger-than-life puppets of the 6 Supreme Court Justices. We have brought these puppets to rallies at the Rhode Island Federal Court building and to sites in Providence and South County.
  • Our Artivist light projections appear at planned events and spontaneously in unexpected locations.
  • Our posters appear at rallies, vigils, homes and businesses across the state, and we offer our artist-designed posters and artwork for free to anyone who wants them.
  • We use collective art making to spread messages of bodily autonomy, abortion rights, racial and gender justice and the power of the arts to create social change.
  • We exposed fake planning clinics.
  • We launched the RI 4 All video series on civic engagement.

WHAT’S NEXT?
On April 3, we will launch the first of our ARTIST-DESIGNED BILLBOARDS on I-95, featuring the work of local BIPOC women artists, proudly professing that ABORTION IS HEALTHCARE and HEALTHCARE IS A HUMAN RIGHT. Additional billboards will appear in May and June with bold visuals and clear messaging that Rhode Islanders deserve and demand the right to control their own bodies.
