Hey, Womxn Project friends. You may have seen that earlier today the Georgia governor signed House Bill 481, a bill banning aboriton as early as 6 weeks – a time when most people do not even know that they are pregnant. Several states are moving bills that are basically outright bans. That is why we are standing in solidarity. All this week we are encouraging folks to help groups who are working hard on the ground to fight these bills and pushing for support of the abortion funds that help to make the right to abortion a reality. Check out #solidarity4access and do what you can to #fundabortionbuildpower!
Rhode Island women need to not only speak out to be with our partners who are making sure that people can make their own decisions and control their own futures, but also fight hard to secure #repro4RI!
HANDMAIDS – reading and rising up together (May 10th and 11th): We continue to show up at the State House every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Recently, we have had folks dressed up as handmaids in the Senate gallery and committee rooms. This plays on the powerful icon of a dystopian future where women have no rights or agency.
We had people who did not understand this iconic imagery from Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale”, so to continue to spread awareness and bring people together, we are hosting a series of readings of Atwood’s novel at local bookstores in Pawtucket, Provident and South Kingstown. Join us! Hear from our handmaids, ask questions about the bill, pick up a postcard packet and find out about future opportunities to get involved. Click here to find out more and be there with us!
And your showing up the State House has never been so important. Want to be a handmaid at the State House with us. This coming THURSDAY is an important day. Connect with us here.

Rhode Island Womxn are standing with people in FL, KY, MO, TN, MS, and now GA.
We can’t just allow lawmakers to take away our rights to plan our families and our futures.
Lawmakers are banning access to abortion. This is OUR decision. We control our bodies and futures.
We are done watching politicians push bills to take away our decision and access to care!
BEEP BEEP – our mobile billboard truck is in Senator Archambault, Algiere, Raptakis and McCaffrey’s districts this week. We are making it clear that either you stand for the right to abortion or you are standing in the way of our decisions and our rights.
Want to know what those trucks say?
(left) Either your stand for the right to abortion or you’re standing in the way of our rights and our decisions. Period. // Senator Archambault, thank you for saying that Roe v. Wade is the law of the land and it should remain the law of the land.
(center and right) Either your stand for the right to abortion or you’re standing in the way of our rights and our decisions. Period. // The Reproductive Health Care Act protects the right to abortion- plain and simple. Rhode Islanders don’t want to wait for our rights to be taken away!
