People across the globe and right here in the Ocean State continue to speak out and to march to push for an end to racism. In the past week, we saw HUGE events in Providence, Newport, SK and several other places in the region. People are rising up and we need to keep doing so in all the ways we can.
The Womxn Project board member, Tammy Brown has a VERY powerful video as part of our #SustainingCommunity series on how allies can help advance long-term change for racial justice.
Tammy makes it clear that we have to make a long-term commitment to being actively anti-racist. It won’t take a week or a month. This has to be a movement, not a moment. Recent events also make clear that we have to make sure that Black transgender people are not left behind.
Yesterday, the Trump administration announced they will roll back health protections for transgender people. This is horrible on its own, but especially when you know that it will fall the hardest on transgender people of color who are more likely to live in poverty and less likely to have health insurance and to face anti-transgender harassment. Just this week, two transgender, Black womxn were killed, Dominique Fells and Riah Milton. We must say their names and fight for true liberation for all!
HELP SHINE A LIGHT ON INJUSTICE – and push for action! Did you see our projections on the State House urging white people to take action for racial justice? We want to continue to pop up and do these ARTivist spotlights to keep up momentum and encourage people to act for positive change.
We are going to keep these going in new places around the state. Are you intrigued? Want to come help? Or do you have an idea of a call to action we should share or a place we should go? Great! Click HERE to learn more. Together, we can continue to make a difference!
As always, we will keep you informed of our actions and activities and are honored for your company, either virtually, your financial assistance to the the projects, or in person as it feels safer for all of us to venture out.
