It has been an exciting week! We had large groups of folks at the State House all week to make it clear that Rhode Island women do not want to wait any longer to protect our rights.
Mid-week we had a group of handmaidens with us and it shook things up. The handmaids represent a dystopian future where women do not have rights or agency – the kind of future we are fighting against. (Read the personal account by one handmaiden.)
Our activists also ran into Secretary of State, Nellie Gorbea who took a picture with some of our group. We are grateful to Nellie for her very public support of the RHCA!
Then last night was VERY powerful. Our volunteer, Susan Morettini shared the story of her grandmother, Ernestine who died as a result of an illegal abortion in 1927.
Roe v. Wade was not the beginning of people seeking abortion. It was the end of women dying because they couldn’t get safe care. We will not forget Ernestine or the thousands of women who died. We will continue to fight in their honor to make sure we never go back!
Listen to Susan tell her family’s story – and commit to being with us to see it through!
