Tuesday, hundreds of thousands of people took the streets around the country and nearly 1,000 folks gathered outside the Rhode Island State House. We mobilized quickly and we let the world know: this is not over, in Rhode Island and nationally. We held a rally to come together and let leadership know we intend to finish what we started, fighting for all RI’ers rights to have an abortion beyond the Reproductive Privacy Act passed in 2019. We are fighting for the EQUAL right of all people, which should include Medicaid recipients and State Workers. Here are images from the event.
We are SOOOOO grateful to every lawmaker, health provider, and activist who showed up and joined us as well as many of the Equal Abortion Coverage Campaign partners Tuesday night. We need to keep speaking out and showing up – including NOW! So we have immediate actions for you!
|1| CALL TO ACTION FOR THURSDAY+
In Rhode Island, we have policies that deny health coverage for abortion and push services out of reach for low-income people and state health insurance plans.
We need you to contact Governor Dan McKee and urge him to introduce a budget amendment to get bans on abortion coverage OUT of the state budget.
- Send an email and make a call (BOTH ARE NEEDED):
[email protected] and 401-222-2080! - Sample Email/Voicemail:
“I am a voter. I support the right to abortion. If Governor McKee truly supports our right, then he needs to get bans on health coverage OUT of the state budget.” Keep calling, emailing and demanding action!
Call and or email – more than once if you’re able. Keep up the pressure! The governor has said he supports the right to abortion. Well we need more than words. We need him to STEP UP and take action! There will be many needs and opportunities in the days to come, but this is such an important ask. Please, email and call right away!
|2| WE NEED YOU AT THE STATE HOUSE WITH US
In this Google form, share with the Campaign if you can join us Tuesday, Wednesday, and/or Thursday of coming weeks. Our physical presence is essential as we learned in passing the RPA. It is time to do it again and we will have actions you can take there at the State House!
Sign up ASAP for a start date of next Tuesday.
