Rhode Island Women Need Compassion, Support and Safe, Legal Abortion Care

iStock 847575018sm

We know that women of all faith traditions seek abortion care. It is not our place to make a decision about pregnancy and parenting for them, to judge them or to try to make it more difficult to get care.

CatholicInfographicWe should show compassion by supporting people as they make reproductive health decisions. This is a question of each person being able to follow their own beliefs and faith traditions.

It is important that we make sure we all get to manage our health, plan and build our families as we see fit, and control our futures.  That means we need to ensure people can get an abortion when they need one.

If Roe is overturned, it means that every state would determine if women can get safe and legal care. We need to make sure that no matter what happens at the federal level that in Rhode Island we protect the right to seek an abortion. Rhode Island women are sick of waiting for lawmakers to take action and protect our rights!

ReligiousGroupThe opposition uses truly inflammatory rhetoric and false claims about the bills because they know the momentum is only growing to take action this year. Listen for us, this is not about politics: it’s about our health and our ability to control our own futures. And it is about respecting the ability of each of us to follow our own beliefs when it comes to the personal and profound decisions about whether to become a parent or add to our families.  We believe that people should be able to get an abortion without barriers or judgment.

The Reproductive Health Care Act (S 152) and the Reproductive Privacy Act (H 5125) protect our rights and access. This legislation makes it clear that Rhode Islanders want to make sure that no matter what happens at the federal level that here in Rhode Island we protect the right to make personal decisions and access safe, legal abortion care.

Making sure that courts and politicians don’t get to take away the right to abortion is a critical and it needs to happen THIS YEAR!

  • We are speaking out and showing up to events at the State House and in our communities. Join us!

We have the opportunity to ensure the health, rights and safety of women in Rhode Island.  This bill is our chance to start to close gaps in access to abortion care and improve reproductive health in the state. It stands as a clear rejection the relentless attempts to interfere with personal decisions and undermine women’s rights, health and bodily autonomy.
