Pie-Corner Talks, a podcast by Jennifer Rourke

Pie-Corner Talks

WELCOME!

Jennifer Rourke brings a new Rhode Island podcast that will break down the mystery of what happens at the State House through the lens of reproductive justice. She will host perspectives from guests across the state about issues that matter to them and how they intersect with reproductive freedom.

Have you ever wondered about bills that your Representative or Senator brings forth? Or whether or not they co-sponsor bills both good and bad? So why Pie-corner? It is an area in London which is famous for cooks’, shops, saddlers and prostitution (‘pie’ and ‘corner’ were both slang terms for the vagina)? In Pie-Corner, we will focus on one slice of the Rhode Island pie, and how it impacts the rest of our state and county.

This is the podcast for you.

In 2018, we saw more womxn than ever elected to our General Assembly, we have so many new reproductive freedom champions in our State House.  Yet, we know with recent appointment of Kavanugh to the Supreme Court, and Trump still in office, are rights are under attack. This podcast will discuss bills being sponsored that will proactively protect our rights, and those that might threaten our rights, and the mushy middle. Every week we will interview a variety of guests from doctors to organization leaders who support our views and at the end discuss current legislation.

This podcast will keep you informed of actions being taken at the State House that affect all of us.

What’s different about this podcast.
Our hour long slice of the pie will include a segment from the Honorable Jeanine Calkin. She will provide a weekly wrap of this week in the State House. Bills good and bad, important Committee hearings, and votes will be covered. This will be Rhode Island’s only womxn created weekly roundup of the State House!

WHAT’S WITH THE TITLE, YOU ASK?
“Early editions of Shakespeare’s plays sometimes ignored or censored slang and sexual language. But the First Folio reveals a text full of innuendo and rudeness.

Here are some examples of slang or sexual language which were clearly understood by Shakespeare’s original audiences, but may be less obvious to audiences today. These examples were put together by Heloise Senechal, from the Complete Works of Shakespeare (2008) published by the RSC and Macmillan.
