We’re already feeling some election year anxiety because we know that another four years of a Trump White House would be catastrophic for bodily autonomy. Just us or are you feeling it, too?
But what’s truly frightening is that even without Trump in the seat of power, we’re seeing folks who actively fight against bodily autonomy pushing their agenda. Alabama’s Supreme Court just granted embryos personhood with legal protections under the state’s Wrongful Death of a Minor Act. And we’re heartbroken and outraged over the death of transgender youth Nex Benedict who was killed by hateful bullies. People shouldn’t have to live this way, and we’ll keep doing our part to make sure that they don’t.
We’re advocating at the state level inside and outside the State House so that every corner of Rhode Island is a safe place for LBGTQ+ folks, women, birthing people, and any other community that feels marginalized. Which, unfortunately, is a lot these days. Expect to see action notices in addition to our monthly newsletter so that you can take part in the movement.
Ya estamos sintiendo ansiedad del año electoral porque sabemos que otros cuatro años con Trump en la Casa Blanca serÃan catastróficos para la autonomÃa corporal. ¿Solo somos nosotros o tú también lo sientes?
Pero lo que es verdaderamente alarmante es que incluso sin Trump en la posición de poder, estamos viendo personas que no creen en la autonomÃa corporal movilizando su agenda. Call to Action: RI Provider Protections Shield Bill (Hearings)
On Tuesday, March 5, the House Judiciary Committee will hear testimony on the Provider Protection Shield Bill (SB2262/HB7577), which will protect legal, standard-of-care transgender and reproductive medical care for patients and providers in Rhode Island.
You can help move this important bill through the legislative process by submitting your written testimony to [email protected] by noon on Tuesday, March 5 AND by 3pm on Thursday, March 7th for [email protected].
In your testimony, explain why you think the bill should be law, and be sure to include your name and ZIP code in your written testimony.
In the same hearing on Tuesday, testimony on several anti-abortion bills also will be heard (H7370, H7375, H7529), and we ask that you submit a second testimony against these bills. Here is an example of testimony we’ve submitted in the past to help you get started.

The Empowered to Advocate Series is expanding!

After awesome feedback and a lot of interest in our first event on February 3 at the Providence Public Library, TWPEF and partners are expanding the Empowered to Advocate series to include shorter community conversations and a few bigger events like we had already. One will be virtual, so consider that one too!
