This week, Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed and sworn in as the next Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. We now wake up knowing that many of the rights we hold dear – abortion access, voting rights, healthcare access, climate justice, LGBTQ+ equality, racial justice, and so much more – face very real threats. That means that State based actions are even MORE important, which we both know TWP can do!
We know that together that we are stronger. When we come together, we are powerful and will make a difference. Because of the Court’s 6-3 conservative majority, federal battles to secure our civil and human rights will be more challenging. That is why it is even more important to reiterate TWP will continue to be BOLD and to seek to expand these rights through RI legislation, actions, as well as advocating at the federal level at times.
We are committed to keep you informed, to provide support, and to do what we does best- provide small and large opportunities to impact change through creative solutions. You keep hearing it and we will keep staying it until the last day, VOTE (many details shared here). Then there are a few other things we should be doing:
- Call your RI Senators and House Representatives urging them to support a change in leadership that genuinely focuses on womxn and families.
- Support (phonebank, donate, etc.) a candidate who supports your vision and values.
- Donate to an abortion fund or another group providing mutual aid or direct support in our communities.
Incase you missed it, our board member and friend Tammy Brown did something bold and brave this weekend. She protested at the Supreme Court, 30′ high. Her actions captured so many of our hearts, minds and frustrations. Watch her live recording
Tammy invites us to join her and Metamorphosis Dance Company this SUNDAY for a joyful and fun event to promote voting! Come to dance, or just watch! (Wear a mask) Details on the dance. Details on the day
Together we will keep striving and acting with intentional determination for a better Rhode Island.
We are thankful to be doing it with you.
