Thank you to everyone who came out to our big FUN’draiser on Sunday. We had an exciting weekend full of organizing and community building across the state from Portsmouth to Coventry to Providence and Warwick. You can check out pictures on our Facebook and Twitter.
We have another fun and fabulous opportunity THIS WEEK! On Thursday, April 4th from 3:00-7:30pm, we will be in the State House rotunda leading an event called “Making Art, Making Change”.
The Womxn Project started when a group of artists and activist came together to build a strong, statewide movement that would harness art, activism and advocacy to push for real and lasting change to advance human rights and reproductive justice.
“Making Art, Making Change” is a night of music and performances and creativity in the State House to harness the power of art to bring people together, to take up space and to show that we are not going to stop organizing and speaking out until we pass the Reproductive Health Care Act!
- Activists will be playing instruments – like the ukulele.
- Local students will be singing acapella.
- An art teacher will be teaching people how to make mandalas.
- We will have the RHCA quilt on display and our sewing masters will be at work to help create and sew squares.
- One of our board members will be doing portraits.
- We are also working with another board member to try to get folks to do spoken word and monologues.
We need to keep turning up the heat to get this done and to protect the right to abortion. We also want to bring the positive and transformative energy that comes with art to lawmakers. We will be there from 3:00-7:30. Kids are welcome. Whether you can come for an hour or all night, we hope you can be there with us!
Can’t make it to our BIG art and activism event? You can still get involved. Be part of our postcarding program. It is easy, but super effective and powerful! You simply get a packet with supplies and information, take 20 minutes to write out some cards and put them in the mail. We even provide the stamps! Our volunteers have helped get THOUSANDS of postcards out there this session, but we need to keep it up. Contact our co-director, Jordan Hevenor ([email protected] or 401-829-9519) to arrange to pick up a packet. You can also visit our events page. We will be posting information about postcarding parties and opportunities to pick up packets this weekend!
We are not just advancing a campaign. We are building a movement while trying to build in self care. An important part of that work is cultivating community. We are excited to also invite you to attend a meditation and yoga event on Saturday, April 6th in Pawtucket. All work and no play (or self-care) is not how we want to make change. We are grateful for the hard work and dedication of the activists in our network. Come on out and relax and breathe and be with us at this powerful event!
Be well and stay strong!
