Currently in creation, Petition 2.0 builds on the success and size of Petition 1.0.
Petition 2.0 is designed as a quilt, where constituents can sign and decorate a square in support of The Reproductive Health Care Act. The Squares will be sewn together to create panels for a quilt, that will grow in size as we acquire more signatures. The Quilt will be displayed in the RI statehouse during the 2018 legislative session.

Here are the way you can help and what to do specifically.
Quilt Square Instructions
Here is the visual process of how 2.0 is being made:

1. First your signature square is added into the computer. (This helps us keep track of how many we have collected!
2a. Next your square is ironed flat and then trimmed to be exactly 7 inches across.

3. Your square is then arranged with 63 others into a pattern. Each of the rows is condensed into a pile, numbered for placement, and then brought to a stitcher.
4. Stitchers first attach the fabric squares with pins, and then sew the left and right edges of your square with its neighboring squares. This process creates creating long rows of 8 squares.
5. The rows of square are flipped over so that the seams between squares can be ironed open and flat. Rows remain numbered to preserve placement in the final design.
6. Once ironed, the rows are stitched together to create the raw quilt top.

8a. Batting is sandwiched between the quilt top and a fabric backing. Safety pins are used to temporarily tack the three layers together.

9. All the layers will be brought back to the sewing machine so that a running stitch can trace each square’s edges, both reinforcing the quilt’s strength and visual design.
10. An thin edging is created separately and ironed independently. This will finish the edge of the 6 foot quilt.
