Keep reading to find out how YOU can help keep up the resistance in Rhode Island – how YOU can persist with us in our efforts to ensure reproductive health, rights and justice – special event this Saturday where we will kick off our proactive campaign for 2020!
We are writing on a day that demands we commit to naming injustice and committing to dismantling oppression. Many of us are spending time with our children today as schools closed for “Columbus Day”. We challenge our communities to push back on the myth of peaceful coexistence between Indigenous people and those who colonized this country. Instead, today we are celebrating Indigenous peoples and their central role in our past and our future. We hope that you will join us.
We honor the spirit of resilience that Indigenous women have demonstrated throughout time in defense of their land and their families. There have been countless attempts through violence and through public policy to try to control how Native people build their families, who gets to have or keep their children, and the kind of healthcare that they have access to. We are committed to continuing to tear down barriers that get in the way of anyone’s ability to make their own decisions about their bodies, their families and their futures!
We acknowledge that we do this work today on land that belonged to the Nipmuc, Pequot, Wampanoag, and Narraganset people. We commit to ensuring the voices of those who are pushed to the margins or pushed out of places of power are centered and respected in all that we do.
Now, together we have the opportunity to build on that progress. We protected the right to abortion. Now, let’s make that right real!
