The 2019 session has begun and we are hard at work. In fact, just yesterday supporters were up at the state house delivering postcards.
We know that support is growing. A poll done by the Providence Journal, the Public’s Radio and NBC 6 over the summer found that more than 70% of Rhode Island voters support the General Assembly passing the Reproductive Health Care Act,a bill to protect the right to legal abortion.
It is clear that voters in our state want to see this bill passed. We are thrilled that our governor has also expressed support. Just last summer, Governor Raimondo stated,”We must take proactive steps to protect women’s rights to choose here in Rhode Island. I look forward to signing the Reproductive Health Care Act as quickly as the legislature can pass it.” We are working hard to cultivate support among state lawmakers, so we can get this bill to her desk!
There are number of important issues up for consideration. We want to make it clear that this bill is a priority for THIS YEAR! We are asking the governor to mention this bill and the importance of pushing it through this year when she gives her “State of the State” next Tuesday, January 15th.
- TAKE ACTION: Please, take 5 minutes today and make a quick call to the governor’s office(401-222-2080). It really is simple. You can just say, “I am calling to thank Governor Raimondo for her support of the Reproductive Health Care Actand to urge her to mention the need to pass this critical legislation in 2019 in her ‘State of the State’ next Tuesday. A majority of voters support this bill. I am one of them. Thank you so much for your consideration of my request.”
After you make your call, feel free to also fill out her online contact form HERE, but please do make a call. Just a handful of calls can go a long way.
