On September 9th, the Environmental Protection Agency announced that they’re going to be launching a new study titled “Occurrence of Emerging Contaminants in Drinking Water Using Non-Targeted Analysis.” According to the press release, the goal is to “ensure that all Americans have confidence their drinking water is safe” which is pretty ironic considering the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals just said that clean drinking water is not a constitutional right…but I digress.
What’s particularly concerning to us about this study is the intent behind it. While they claim it’s just about making sure the drinking water is safe, it’s hard to ignore that certain medications hidden among the 250 pharmaceuticals (pages 12-15) they’re going to be testing for have also been the subject of controversy. For example, we have seen this with the federal attempts to restrict mifepristone, RFK Jr’s statements against the usage of SSRIs, and attempts to limit access to birth control, just to name a few.
Our goal in sharing this information is not to fear monger, but rather to raise awareness about how threats towards bodily freedom can and often do hide in plain sight. News like this does not always make the headlines, and as an organization dedicated to protecting bodily freedom, we want to inform you of what other sources don’t. What may seem like an environmental study to serve the best interests of Americans might actually be something far more nefarious, but since we can’t say for sure either way, we believe that it’s best to stay vigilant just in case.
While we don’t know what the EPA’s exact plan is yet or what will come as a result of this study, we want to take a moment to remind you all that we will continue to fight to protect bodily freedom, which means fighting back if any of these medications become restricted or worse.
We may just be one small organization in the smallest state, but we have been successful at shielding Rhode Island from attacks on bodily freedom in the past. We are committed to keeping up this work and doing our best to ensure that bodily freedom remains protected in this state.
