WRITTEN TESTIMONY IN FAVOR OF PASSING THE PROTECTING CONTRACEPTION ACCESS BILL
H 7653 (Rep. Kazarian)
S 2525 (Sen. Euer)
April 24th, 2018
The Woman Project has been working over the last 16 months to advocate for Rhode Island’s Reproductive Health Care Act. Through this work, we have communicated with thousands of Rhode Islanders, and we have had the supreme privilege of having many honest conversations discussing why it is vitally important to protect safe and legal abortion access in our state. In our state, the current frequency of abortions is at a historic low. This fact is largely due to the current birth control options presently available to Rhode Islanders. As a state, we must take action to prevent the federal government from stripping away our options.
Our bodily autonomy is rooted in our ability to choose the reproductive health options that fit our values and individual lives. Access to birth control options is key to empowering people to control family planning decisions and ultimately personal and professional goals. Rhode Island must act defensively to pass this bill to ensure access to birth control options. To not do so would be an injustice to our bodies and lives.
Rhode Islanders deserve the ability to access reproductive health care if they want it, when they want it, and how they want it.
Reproductive health care IS health care.
Keep Rhode Islanders healthy and safe:
Pass The Protecting Contraceptive Access bill!
