We have been working hard to protect the right to abortion in Rhode Island. We had a big win in our state, but we know that our right continues to be under attack across the country. We need to make sure that bills are not advanced that make care harder to get or harder to provide.
We need to #ACTforwomen!
Politicians who do not want anyone to be able to access abortion at any time are trying to impose medically unnecessary restrictions to close down clinics and delay and obstruct people’s access to abortion care. These bills do not improve health outcomes. They are meant to push care out of reach and shame people who seek abortion care.
Pushing back against these crushing regulations requires a response as strong and sustained as the one we see from the extremists who are working to take away our ability to get safe and legal abortion care. That is why we need you to raise your voice and take urgent action today!
TAKE ACTION: Your voice is urgently needed to make it clear that we deserve the right to access abortion care when we need it. The Women’s Health Protection Act will protect that right by creating a federal safeguard against medically unnecessary limitations and requirements that make it nearly impossible for providers to keep clinic doors open.
There are 195 cosponsors of the bill. Can we get it to 200? Help continue the momentum. Send a message to Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) to urge him to cosponsor the bill.
- CALL Senator Reed today to urge him to support the Women’s Health Protection Act (202-224-4642, DC office and 401-528-5200, Providence office), a critical measure that will protect dignity, self-determination, and the constitutional rights of all people. Ask him to cosponsor this bill to safeguard access to abortion. You can also contact him online.
A changed Supreme Court and relentless, escalating attacks by anti-abortion politicians mean safeguarding access to abortion is beyond critical. Now more than ever we need to not just protect our rights, but also ensure that political agendas do not create more barriers to care.
We can transform outrage into action. We know how powerful we can be when we come together. Please, make your voice heard TODAY!
PS: We are working hard to continue to build a strong movement here in Rhode Island to ensure we can all manage our health, plan our families and control our bodies and our futures. It is important that we also look for ways we can help push for change at the federal level.
